DIADYMA SA in collaboration with the Municipality of Amyntaio, in the context of the implementation of the LESS WASTE II project, started yesterday the actions of delivery of the home compost bins.
The event was held with great success in the Communities of Variko, Lechovo and Levaia, in the presence of Deputy Mayors, Presidents of Communities, executives of DIADYMA SA and a large number of residents of the Communities. At the event, the new home compost bins were presented and the participants were given detailed information about the home composting process..
The project "Action plan for biowaste management in the Interregional region of Greece - Northern Macedonia" with the acronym LESS WASTE II, implemented in the framework of the Interreg IPA CBC program "Greece - Republic of North Macedonia 2014-2020".
The overall objective of LESS WASTE II is waste prevention through the joint development and implementation of actions for better biowaste management in the cross-border area. The project contributes directly to the goal of the program for sustainable waste management, who contributes: in the preservation and protection of the natural environment, improving the quality of life both in the field of cooperation and in the sustainable development of the region in general. The project activities are directly related to the implementation of relevant European waste management policies, in particular the prevention of waste generation with a view to minimizing waste intended for landfill and food waste management, as adopted in the official regional and local waste management plans of the relevant areas.
The specific objectives of LESS WASTE II are:
- to communicate the need for waste management strategies that combine both regional (central) as well as local (decentralized) actions to reduce the volume of landfill waste, Indicatively, the percentage for the recovery of the organic solid waste fraction on the Greek side amounts to 20% until the 2018, when the project is finished
- to introduce domestic composting and segregation at the source of the organic municipal waste fraction to the inhabitants of the area and to the municipalities of the cross-border area, providing both the necessary equipment and the dissemination and material activities
- Demonstrate new and sustainable ways of managing and reusing biowaste to local authorities and professional groups through training and demonstration of equipment
- launch synergies and an awareness culture between target groups that serve the needs of citizens
