Four specialized and targeted programs, by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
Height social package 107 million. euros for the next two years (50 million. euros for the 2021 and 56,9 million. euros for the 2022) for the support of employment in the lignite areas of Western Macedonia and Megalopolis was approved by the Government Committee for de-lignification, which met on Wednesday- via video conference- chaired by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Kosti Hatzidaki.
The package - suggested by the chairman of the Coordinating Committee of the Fair Development Plan (SDAM), Kostis Mousouroulis, subject to the approval of the Commission- will be funded from national resources.
It will be utilized for implementation through the Manpower Development Organization (OAED) 4 programs specialized and targeted in lignite areas that will be gradually activated by the authorities of 2021. It is part of the Special Transitional Program for Fair Development Transition that has a time horizon until 2023 and is already "running" with funding from the Green Fund.
The 4 new programs to support employment:
- Creating new jobs: The Program concerns the employment of unemployed by companies in new full-time jobs with attractive terms and conditions, such as increased salary and contribution subsidies, simplified conditions for participation, faster participation and payment procedures etc..
- Youth Work Experience: Acquisition of work experience for young unemployed people 18 to 29 years with 100% coverage of salary and contributions for their employment in local companies.
- Relocation Grant: Grant for the employment of the unemployed as well as to cover the costs of relocation and accommodation of the unemployed to meet the needs of local companies in specialized personnel.
- Consulting, Training and Employment: Promoting it through the provision of counseling services to the unemployed, such as vocational guidance, developing and upgrading skills through training as well as subsidizing companies for their recruitment. This Program will be implemented in cooperation with the Municipalities of the lignite areas.
The Minister of Environment and Energy Kostis Hatzidakis stated about it:
"The social 'package' approved by the Government Committee is part of our plan for the fair and smooth transition of lignite areas to the new era. It is our main concern not to create a "gap" in employment in the next two years - until all the tools of the Fair Transition Mechanism are activated.- That is why, among other things, we are implementing special programs funded by the Green Fund and we are launching the restoration of soils in lignite areas., that can directly create jobs "
At yesterday's meeting, The Government Committee also approved the final version of the Master Plan for Fair Development Transition (incorporating the comments that emerged from the public consultation), which will be presented to the Council of Ministers next week. It is reminded that for the actions contained in the masterplan will be given for the period 2021-2027 funding of the order of 5 billion to be allocated from the Fair Transition Fund, the Operational Programs of the NSRF 2021-2027, the Juncker Fund and the European Investment Bank, combined with national resources.

Makis Voridis, the Deputy Minister of Development and Investment responsible for NSRF issues Mr.. Giannis Tsakiris, the Secretary General of Energy and Mineral Raw Materials Mr.. Alexandra Sdoukou and the chairman of the SDAM Coordinating Committee Mr.. Kostis Mousouroulis.
