The first ones arrived 51 unaccompanied refugee children from structures of mainland and island Greece in a hotel in Velvento, Kozani, which will be hosted for the first time 71 children from 14 to 18 years.
Following a request from the hotel management to the Ministry of Migration Policy and its approval, the refugee children who arrived in the area of Syrian origin, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Egypt will be hosted for 2 months.
People from the International Organization for Migration have already arrived at the hotel, while the overall responsibility for hosting the unaccompanied refugees will be borne by the NGO "Solidarity Now" which has already announced the announcement for the recruitment of staff in total 35 people from the area.
Mrs.. Antigone Lymperaki, General Director of the NGO, "Solidarity now", speaking to ERT about the 2-month hospitality, stressed, among other things, the need to support children who are suffering, from the difficult journey. He stressed the importance of educating them for their own better tomorrow, who will face life as citizens. Some residents of Velvento are positive, while others appear skeptical about cohabitation and the Mayor of Velvento Manolis Stergiou, referred to their hospitality, with the objection that the Municipal Authority did not know about their arrival.
Meanwhile, The discussion continues in the local community about the measures that should be taken for the best possible hospitality during their stay, seeking the best possible coexistence.
