The 47-year-old meat trader who sat on the bench of the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki was sentenced to life imprisonment, accused of killing and burying 59-year-old farmer Dimitris Graikos, whose body was found, last May, two and a half years after his disappearance. After many days of hearing, the judges unanimously found him guilty of murder, without recognizing him as a mitigator. The decision was accepted with applause from relatives of the victim, while the accused returned to prison to serve his sentence.
Earlier, in the morning, the prosecutor of the headquarters had suggested his conviction for intentional homicide in a calm state of mind, proposal which was finally accepted. She herself called him "unrepentant", rejecting all his allegations about the circumstances of the 59-year-old's death. According to the prosecutor, the breeder followed the accused, «Καθ’ at his suggestion », in the livestock unit that he kept at that time in East Thessaloniki to collect money - about the 47.000 euro- owed to him by the 47-year-old from animal slaughter.
In his apology before the Mixed Jury Court, the perpetrator claimed that he did not intend to kill the victim and that everything happened during the fight after an argument broke out between them. «(…) used indecent words. When I said “get up and leave”, he grabbed me by the blouse. I hit him hard, but not to kill him. He fell backwards and I fell on top of him. "After I got up I see that he remained unconscious" he apologized and referred to the efforts he made to bring the 59-year-old back, until she finally decided to bury him. "I caught his pulse, I saw that there is no life. There I decided to do everything,what did i do to hide the fact. I dug a hole and with the help of a loader I threw the corpse inside and covered it with rubble. I did the same with his car…He said characteristically.
