From the Department of Public Health Region of Western Macedonia, we inform that:
To deal immediately and drastically with the problem of mosquitoes, in addition to the program implemented by our Region, the contribution of all of us is necessary.
As every year, so this year we must take care around the house not to leave stagnant water, in pots saucers, basins, buckets, flooded basements, etc. We mow the grass often, because the soil remains wet for long periods after watering, can be a point of laying their eggs.
Water preferably in the morning.
We regularly renew the water in animal watering cans, troughs, cisterns.
Barrels containing water, we cover them.
We often clean and spray animal stables and coops.
Personal protection measures:
– We place screens on the doors, windows, skylights and fireplace vents.
– We use insecticides in the air (snakes, tablets, aerosol etc.) according to the instructions for use of the preparation.
– We use yellow bulbs for outdoor lighting, because they attract less mosquitoes.
– Use of fans or air conditioners, because their activity is reduced.
Suitable clothes that cover the body as much as possible:
– long sleeves and pants
– light colored and loose clothes
Most mosquito species are active from dusk to dawn.
Insect repellents on exposed skin & above the clothes:

Mosquitoes can transmit various diseases with their sting (such as malaria, West Nile virus infection):
-if they are infected
-depending on their species.
West Nile virus
transmitted mainly by the bite of common mosquitoes (Culex). They reproduce in man-made outbreaks (potholes, rainwater wells). They attack throughout the night. An important contribution to combat them is the reduction of stagnant water.
Aides albopictus :
Known as the "Tiger of Asia"
It has high health importance, as it is a potential carrier of many arboviruses, dangerous to human health. Reproduced in small aquifers. It is active during the day. He is extremely humane, causing significant nuisance.
Anopheles – Anopheles.
They mainly transmit malaria plasmodia.
It stings at dusk and during the night.
