In addition to the unreasonably violent depoliticization, which is rapidly overturning the economy of our region, It seems that the government is urgent to turn us into a garbage dump in the Balkans.
On the one hand, he prepares plans to burn garbage, filling the atmosphere with toxic dioxins and furans, on the other hand he wants to bring asbestos waste here. It is the duty of the local government and the deputies not just to reject any such thought, but to promote alternative proposals for productive development of the area.
Expensive wind and solar systems have already entered our electrical system, that they produce whenever it blows, whenever it is sunny, not when we need electricity. In this way, the country ended up either burning more and more 100% imported natural gas or to import electricity from the lignite of Skopje, Βουλγαρων, even Turks. It is therefore imperative to take advantage of every opportunity to store randomly generated electricity and use it when it is really needed.. The best and most used storage method in the world, although expensive, is pumped storage, (pumping water from one low-lying reservoir to another higher one and converting the dynamic energy of water into electricity).
There are already international examples of the development of old mines as pumped storage reservoirs. The pit of the MAVE mine as a water reservoir is located just above the reservoirs of the dams of Hilarion and Polyphytos, with a significant altitude difference from the Aliakmonas riverbed. It is therefore particularly easy to exploit the mine for pumping storage and electricity generation.: during the day, with energy from photovoltaics, water can be pumped from Hilarion to the mine and at night, the peak hours of electricity demand, to descend to Lake Polyphytou.
The possibility of using the mine for electricity generation also allows part of the water to be used in the summer months for irrigation, thus enhances the possibility of implementing irrigation in Kamvounia. A similar possibility of utilizing a mining excavation of the above reservoir for pumping storage and electricity generation exists in the future for the LARCO lignite mine., where the altitude difference with Lake Polyphytou is particularly advantageous. There, however, it is possible to precede the complete extraction of lignite as much as possible.
The proposed solution for MAVE and LARCO obviously requires cooperation of the region with PPC, which has the hydroelectric power plants of Aliakmonas and can develop the hydroelectric power plants in the pits of the mines.
