New coronavirus may eventually be more dangerous to middle-aged people than, what scientists have believed so far. This suggests a new study that has shown that the risk of dying from the new virus increases with age., but the increase is leaps and bounds from 10 years to 10 years.
The study is a combined analysis (meta-analysis) of available studies on the incidence of Covid-19 disease in economically developed countries. Overall it is about 27 studies covering the USA, Canada, Europe and Asia.
As the study showed, the 25-year-olds infected with the coronavirus have 1 at 10.000 chances of losing their lives from its complications. The corresponding ratio for the 35-year-olds is 1 probability on 2.700.
After the 45 but the chances increase dramatically. The 45-year-olds infected with the coronavirus have 1 probability on 800 to end up. The 55-year-olds they have 1 probability on 240 and the 65-year-olds 1 at 70.
«The new coronavirus is not only dangerous for the elderly in care units», says the document lead researcher Dr. Andrew Levin, Professor of Economics at Dartmouth College, in New Hampshire. «Cis becoming increasingly dangerous, even in middle age».
According to yesterday (28 January 2021) data from the National Agency for Public Health (EODY), in our country have ended up with coronavirus:
- 841 elderly patients 40-64 years (correspond to 14,6% of the total number of victims)
- 45 elderly patients 18 to 39 years (rate 0,08%)
THE The total number of victims in Greece is 5.742. Their median age was 79 years (from 24 to 103 years).
The coronavirus is more dangerous than the traffic
The new analysis also showed that the chances of death of middle-aged people from Covid-19 disease, are multiple from the possibility of being killed in a car accident. particularly:
- The aged people 45-55 years are almost 18 times more likely to die from coronavirus than, what about rolling
- The aged people 55-64 years have almost 58 times more likely
«Middle-aged people need to have these elements in mind, when deciding whether to put on their mask properly. The same when they are bored to disinfect their hands or "forget" to keep their distance», said the Dr. Abhijit duggal, intensivist at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
«The risk of coronavirus is real. It is not only the elderly who are at risk of dying prematurely. The middle-aged are also at great risk», added Dr. Duggal, who did not participate in the new analysis.
Consider long-term damage as well
Ο Dr. Duggal also stressed that it is not only the risk of death that middle-aged people should be aware of. «Death is not the only negative outcome of the new coronavirus», he said. «A significant percentage of patients remain with long-term lesions, which we do not yet know if they will be permanent.
»So if a 40-year-old or 50-year-old develops chronic lung disease due to Covid-19 disease, will have serious consequences for the rest 20 the 30 years of his life. Therefore, we have to be very careful, to avoid this dangerous and unpredictable virus».
The new analysis published in the medical journal European Journal of Epidemiology.
