Two Moroccans arrested as value cryptocurrencies found in their digital wallets 2 million euros. It is the first case of its kind in Greece and perhaps one of the first in Europe.
A case of cyber fraud and theft of cryptocurrencies and money was investigated by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, of total value 260.000 euro.
From the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, A regular lawsuit has been filed against two Moroccans in connection with a cyber fraud case, digital wallet breach and theft of cryptocurrencies and money, of total value 260.000 euro.
It was preceded by the complaint of the Greek businessman and their victim from an Ionian island, according to, unknown perpetrators, after breaching his personal email inbox, stole his credentials and logged into his account - his digital wallet, subtracting digital currencies (cryptocurrencies) and amount of money, of total value 260.000 euro, which they then transferred to other digital wallets.
In order to make them difficult to locate, they proceeded to exchanges in digital exchanges and needed at least 10 months of research and sophisticated techniques to bring this case to the forefront.
The details of the case were brought to the attention of the competent Prosecutor's Office, which ordered a preliminary examination, in the context of which and after a thorough police and digital - internet investigation, in collaboration with Europol's European Cybercrime Center (EC3) and other police authorities, Moroccan figures were identified, residents abroad.
It is noted that, locating the final destination of the cryptocurrencies and identifying the perpetrators, carried out using specialized software, which tracked the flow of digital currencies and carried out an in-depth analysis of the transactions made.
In fact, it was found that, in the digital wallets held by the perpetrators, cryptocurrencies of approximately value have been disbursed 2.000.000 euro, which may come from similar acts to the detriment of other individuals worldwide.
The case file was submitted to the competent Prosecutor's Office, while investigations to fully clarify the case continue, in cooperation with Europol and other police authorities.
