The Municipality of Kozani together with DIADYMA and the Cluster of Bioeconomy and Environment of Western Macedonia (Club) collaborate in an international, four-year EU-funded project, the SCALIBUR (SCALable technologies for Recovery Bio-Urban waste). The aim of the project is to improve collection systems, biowaste sorting and transport by improving the quality of recycled materials and, Consequently, to contribute to the reduction of waste management costs in the city of Kozani. In this context, it will start on Saturday 14 November 2020 the pilot implementation of the collection of biowaste from the Popular Market of Kozani.
The separate collection of biowaste will be carried out in collaboration with the sellers of food items to whom special brown bags will be distributed. These will be used by them to collect separately the biowaste generated during the Public Market (such as fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, pasta, rice , legumes, bread, sweet, Dairy Products, eggs etc.) which would otherwise end up in the single municipal solid waste bin. The bags will be distributed every Saturday morning to the sellers who, after filling them, will leave them on their counter so that DIADYMA can pass by and collect them after its end..
In this way the involved bodies extend to the main Popular Market of the city the Screening Program at the Source (ΔσΠ) for household biowaste that you are implementing in recent years in the Municipality of Kozani in order to expand this project and implement in the next period on a full scale.
End, according to the National Waste Management Plan, the separate collection of biowaste must be established, as a primary step of the new management system, to achieve the goal of separate collection, namely 40% of their total weight, up to 2023. The treatment of separately collected biowaste will aim at the production of compost which meets the quality standards for its further use in accordance with international and national standards..
