The financial staff monitors the evolution of diesel prices every day and is ready to intervene in case the crisis worsens, sources from the Ministry of Finance say.
According to the same factors, the diesel subsidy will start from November 1, if prices do not fall substantially in the interim.
All indications are that the post-subsidy price spike is prompting the government to change course and return to subsidizing diesel. Information indicates that the subsidy will be again 15 cents per liter at the pump and will last until the end of the year. The course of the price and the fiscal will also determine the duration of the subsidy.
The latest figures from the Ministry of Development show that at average levels nationwide, the price of diesel has risen to 2,121 euros per liter, while gasoline is at 2,034 euro. In addition to the increased costs for citizens' movements, the financial staff tries to limit the pass-through of costs to product prices.
Regarding heating oil, nothing will change in the amount of the subsidy or the duration of the measure, however, the financial staff is considering raising the threshold of the asset criteria so that increases in objective prices do not leave out beneficiaries whose wealth has not actually changed compared to last year.
