The response of the Municipality of Kastoria to the initiative undertaken by the Central Union of Greek Municipalities was immediate (ΚΕΔΕ) and the relevant Decision taken for “Establishment of a network of cities hosting Pontian communities in order to promote the recognition of the Pontian genocide by the international community”.
In the first online meeting that took place today with representatives of the Local Government, on the part of the Municipality of Kastoria, The Deputy Mayor of Logistics participated, Everyday and Citizen Service, Stelios Fouliaras, who stressed the “the enormous importance of such initiatives, especially when it comes to one of the most important historical events in modern history, of which we must learn, to remember, to honor, but also to intensify the efforts for the struggle for justice that will come with the recognition by the international community”.
KEDE decided to set up an organizing committee to prepare an action plan, organization and operation of the network, whose purpose it will be:
- Awareness and mobilization of the cities and local communities of Hellenism for this purpose
- Utilizing the relationships of each community with the other communities
- The coordinated effort to influence international decision-making centers
- Informing the world community about the true dimensions of genocide
