Despite the "stormy" year in schools, due to the constant upheavals caused by the pandemic, political leadership initiatives to reform teaching in schools, with the first changes coming in September 2021, proceed normally.
Introduction to the multiple book, new curricula, extension to all schools of pilot skills workshops, as well as English in kindergartens, new model and experimental schools, as well as experimental IEK and EPAL standards, are the changes included in the planning of the Ministry of Education in the coming years. It is noted that the new school year will be the first after more than a decade that there will be thousands of permanent appointments in Primary and Secondary Education.
Following the pilot implementation of the skills workshops in 218 Kindergartens, Primary and Secondary Schools, the program is now being extended to all schools in the country. This is a series of thematic circles that include from the environment, nutrition and sex education to educational robotics, STEM and entrepreneurship.
The workshops are part of the mandatory timetable with the aim of integrating new teaching methods aimed at cultivating soft and digital skills., and school equipment, especially in topics such as robotics, will be supported by the Recovery Fund.
Alongside, the program of activities in English, which this year operated as a pilot for kindergartens, from the new year will apply to all schools. It is noted that in the new school year the implementation of the universal two-year pre-school education is completed, with the inclusion of the last municipalities that were left out in previous years due to lack of infrastructure.
End, the school map will be enriched with structures of model and experimental schools, with the results of the open invitation of the Ministry of Education to public schools to be expected in the coming days. And, on the front of vocational training, new experimental IEK and EPAL standards will be established.
The teaching of the new curricula will start with a pilot application in a limited number of schools, which are the work of the Institute for Educational Policy, since September 2021. According to the Ministry of Education, new programs aim at a personalized, student-centered approach to teaching.
In the next stage, the curricula will be extended to other schools, when the new textbooks will be ready, which will also be in digital form. A new introduction to school teaching will be the multiple book, that is, more than one textbook which the teacher will have at his disposal, and not just one, as it stands to this day, from which it will draw information from multiple sources.
For all the above, the training of teachers is foreseen, both in the basic literacy and in the new additions to the timetable.. The training will start in May 70.000 teachers for skills workshops, while in September the training of teachers for the program of activities in English in kindergartens will begin.
The training process will be offered through the Integrated Information System, which will provide, including, modern and asynchronous training services, with certified procedures and quality assurance, acting as a space for collaborative learning and dissemination of practices.
