Open letter to the Regional Governor: to discontinue the consultation on the Depoliticization Plan
Kozani, 22 October 2020
K. Governor of Western Macedonia
Mr. Governor of Western Macedonia,
In the afternoon 2/10/2020 government launches "public consultation" text entitled "Fair development plan for lignite areas", with 2 Annexes. The "consultation" ends in the afternoon 10/11/2020. However from 16/10/2020 and for 14 days, until 29-10-2020, the government set the Kozani Regional Unit to the Alarm Level category 4 - Increased risk of pandemic. Alongside, from the 23/10/2020 is set to Category Alarm Level 4 - Increased Risk and the Regional Unit of Kastoria.
A look at the "public consultation" website shows that the comments are few and far between and the citizens of Western Macedonia have either not yet submitted their views or are not even aware that there is an ongoing "consultation". With two thirds of the population of the Region of Western Macedonia in "lock down" during the "consultation", it is obvious that citizens are interested in how they will survive today, immediately, they do not even have time to think about how they will survive in the area from 2023.
That is why I propose that you ask the government to immediately suspend the "consultation" and to return to 2021, depending on the evolution of the pandemic, at a more appropriate time, with better information of the citizens and longer duration. In any other case, we citizens have the right to regard "consultation" as a sham.
