The Board of Directors of the Union of Builders and Related Professions, feeling the concern of the employees and the young people of our region, will proceed to protest mobilization on Sunday 4 April 11:00am on the bridge of Rymni.
We call the clubs, the unions, the other organizations of the people and the youth to organize, to mobilize, to coordinate against the plans for the creation of a landfill in the area.
The workers and the people of Aiani, των Καμβουνίων και των Σερβίων χρόνια τώρα έχουν πληρώσει τις επιπτώσεις της λειτουργίας των Μεταλλείων Αμιάντου Βόρειας Ελλάδας (MAVE) who looted the area and destroyed the health of the workers.
Plans to turn the Zidani area into a toxic bomb are not in place today, come from a long time ago when all governments sought to serve the interests of large business groups that saw and still see the management of carcinogenic waste as a profit. The current government, pressing on the plans of all the previous ones, presents the creation of the Asbestos Landfill as a salvation for the region now that the de-lignification will leave thousands of unemployed. They project it as an opportunity. Their actions undermine their hypocritical sensitivity to the environment and people's lives as the focus is not on them but on how to build our area as a toxic waste mine so that some can make a profit.. Regional and Municipal authorities prove that with the "yes but" they are complicit in the crime they are preparing, are allied with this policy. We give them their rewards.
The Builders' Union never put some jobs on the scales in exchange for the pollution of the environment and the destruction of our children's lives. We call on every construction worker to be vigilant so that with our struggles we can prevent these plans. No "custom" environmental study can hide the impact that such a project would have on the aquifer, in the water we drink, where farmers will irrigate their fields, in shaping our own lives. Clearly there must be waste management, waste but with a view to protecting the environment, of the lives of employees and their families, not next to our houses and where our children play!
We fight for:
- Not in the creation of a landfill in the area of Zidani or in another busy location of our area (eg South Field Mine).
- Measures to protect health and the environment
- Waste and hazardous waste management for the benefit of the people and not for the benefit of the few.
