Increase in births and decrease in deaths were recorded in 2016, in relation to 2015, according to statistics showing the evolution of demographic figures in the country.
This data is collected by ELSTAT from the registry offices of all municipalities, in which births are declared and recorded, the deaths, marriages and cohabitation agreements that take place in Greece. In particular, the births in Greece amounted to 92.898 (47.882 boys and 45.016 girls) recording an increase 1,1% in relation to 2015, where was it 91.847 (47.294 boys and 44.553 girls). Births do not include stillbirths, which the 2016 it was 339, increased by 8,6% in relation to 2015 where was it 312.
Deaths decreased 2% and rose to 118.792 (60.526 men and 58.266 women), against 121.212 (61.798 men and 59.414 women) the 2015. Deaths of infants under one year of age rose to 387, increasing the infant mortality rate (Infant deaths under the age of one per year 1.000 live births) in 4,2, against 4 the 2015.
In the Regional Unit of Kozani the 2016 we had 1113 births and 1639 deaths, while, overall in Western Macedonia 1995 births and 3216 deaths
