Summer sales are starting 2022 at 11 July and will last until 31 August. What consumers should be aware of and which Sunday the shops will be open.
With reference to the applicable legislation, (article 15 law's 4177/2013), the shops will also be open on the first Sunday (17 July), after the start of the discount period.
What to watch out for
We remind you that, when making discounts, except for the indication of the old and the new reduced price of the goods and services sold at a discount, The indication and commercial communication of a discount rate is also allowed.
If a reduced price is provided for more than 60% of all items sold, the demonstration of the provided discount rate is required, so it should be listed on the store display and in any other commercial communication, while in case there are different discount rates per product categories, the range of the percentage provided should be indicated.
In any other case, it will be stated that the discounts apply to selected items with reference to the corresponding percentage.
The way in which the reduced price is calculated and displayed, it must be true and accurate. Shopkeepers should, in case of control, be able to prove, that the old sale price indicated on the plate, corresponds to reality.
Special care is required when making regular discounts, as according to the current framework the indication of old and new price is mandatory, while additionally it is possible to indicate a discount percentage.
According to the article 21 ν. 4177/2013, those who violate the provisions on discounts will be fined an amount equal to 0,5% of the annual turnover and in any case not less than five thousand (5.000) euro. In case a fine is imposed for the second time for the same violation within a period of five (5) years, the fine is increased to 3% of the annual turnover of the company in question.
