Recommendations for seasonal flu vaccination, by the National Vaccination Committee, but also the Hellenic Pediatric Society, based on epidemiological data of influenza in children in our country was until today: "Only high-risk groups should be vaccinated each year for seasonal flu, but not healthy children ".
But what should be done for his seasonal flu 2020-2021, with the possibility of a second coronavirus wave (COVID-19) but also with the fear that both coronavirus and seasonal flu can affect the respiratory system.
Due to the winter and the closed spaces, intense coloration will be created, there is a chance that a child will get both viruses at the same time, and the chance of getting seriously ill is high.
This means that from this year all children and adolescents should be vaccinated for seasonal flu, to at least protect themselves from it.
This vaccination should normally be done next October-November, before the flu epidemic, which usually starts at Christmas time.
All children are under 8 years and have never had the flu vaccine, they should do 2 doses at intervals 1 month between them, while older children and adolescents only 1 dose.
In this way we minimize the risk of infection from the flu, provided a) that the vaccine will be very effective this year and b) vaccination coverage for children and adolescents will be high.
