US pharmaceutical company Pfizer has announced that it has begun testing an influenza vaccine based on mRNA technology., the same that is used in its coronavirus vaccine.
The first volunteer has already been vaccinated, according to Reuters. The test will be performed in the US with healthy individuals 65 to 85 years. Initial goal is, as usual, monitoring the safety of the vaccine and subsequently its efficacy in terms of immune response.
"The Covid-19 pandemic has allowed us to seize the huge scientific opportunity of mRNA. The flu remains an area where we need vaccines. ", said Kathryn Jansen, Head of Pfizer Research and Development.
