The extension of expiring contracts as well as new recruitments in the NSS, announced the Minister of Health, B. Kikilias noting that the next days of return from the summer holidays are crucial for the course of the pandemic.
Specifically, in an interview with ERT, he noted:
We are in the time period that returns from the summer holidays, from the periphery to the urban centers, the most hyperactive group of the population, the ages from 20 to 40, our fellow citizens who have mostly moved, they took a vacation, they came in contact with a lot of people. At these ages there is an over-transmission of the virus in Greece and the rest of the world and in fact they transmit the virus mainly asymptomatically.
This is both a challenge and a danger.
It must be made clear that these young people should not come into contact with vulnerable groups, that is, with their parents, with their grandparents or with people who have underlying diseases and could possibly have a huge problem if and when they catch the virus.
This is the bet of the next few days.
You understand that we are talking about a lot of people who return to Attica, which is burdensome at this time, as we see from the epidemiological curve, and in Macedonia and generally in urban centers.
I appeal to everyone once again, both older and younger, to continue and intensify our effort. We must be able to, with discipline, with self-restraint and a sense of responsibility, to defend Public Health together.
Individual responsibility cannot be separated from social responsibility. That is, the solidarity that we show and must all show to the people we love: στον περίγυρό μας, in our family, to those around us. To protect them, to help them, to support them.
We have to wear a mask, we must follow the rules of personal hygiene and social distancing, we have to take care of our family, our friends, our parents, our grandparents.
The Greek has ambition in his soul and in his heart. Let him not point the finger at our young people, unlike a lot of sweets, with a lot of love and a sense of responsibility, help them understand that they may be asymptomatic.
It is the responsibility of all of us. It is the responsibility of the Government, is the responsibility of those who are multipliers of the message, is the responsibility of journalists who have a say and a step and can shape public opinion, to tell the truth based on scientific data, how dangerous this virus is and how much we need to be careful.
For the preparation of ESY. and recruitment
We have doubled the Intensive Care Units in the midst of a coronavirus crisis and now we are moving on 1.200 permanent ICU beds, until its end 2020.
We hired over 6.000 sanitary, doctors, nurses and other staff and we strengthened all our structures. All these people will remain in this battle, or their contract expires, immediately, or in a few months, these contracts will be extended and renewed.
As announced by the Prime Minister, the procedures of permanence are imminent, with criteria, of course, of our auxiliary nurses who were recruited in the midst of Covid and before Covid.
I would like to remind you that we brought a law to the Parliament that enabled the nurses to do their specialty in hospitals, like doctors. This means that others will enter 2.250 nurses within the system.
Moreover, procedures are also underway for permanent recruitment of doctors, other staff nurses.
In such a short time, I do not remember ever having done so much in the National Health System.
The restart of our economy is more successful than other countries
Greece opened its tourism and economy more successfully than, what other countries, despite the increase in cases.
Why there were and there are epidemiological models and digital platforms for measuring the burden of other countries in terms of tourists coming to Greece.
Because there is tracking at a very high level, something that is lacking in other countries and the National Agency for Public Health is permanently above the problems and provides solutions.
Why our Committee of 29 Epidemiologists-Infectious Diseases Specialists, has provided very important scientific solutions documented and structured all this time.
And let's not forget the facts. The harsh statistics that have to do with how many of our fellow human beings are currently intubated in Greece, how many human lives we have lost. I think that, compared to other countries in the Balkans and in Europe and worldwide, Greece is making a very big effort.
