PPC is proceeding with innovative and pioneering investments, in Western Macedonia, with the executives of the area in collaboration with the Management to be ready to implement the business plan of the company, for the next day at the end of the use of lignite.
According to information, although for the Kardia substation, final titles have been entered as a Lignite Power Plant, it seems that another era is beginning with new data, since most of the energy infrastructure will be utilized in new energy activities.
The conversion of the generators of the units 3 and 4 of Kardia substation to modern capacitors for the provision of reactive power regulation and voltage regulation services in the network, reduces the cost of the system while allowing the increased penetration of RES in the system.
At the Station facilities, thermal energy production projects are implemented (SITHYA unit, Electric boilers, Natural gas boilers), ensuring the district heating of Kozani, Eordaias and Amynteou.
An equally important and pioneering project is the installation of a pumping and savings system near the HPP in the area of the exhausted Kardia Mine, which will operate both for the production of green electricity and for its storage for a long time (8 hours), while at the same time the possibility of developing business synergies in the wider area of the mine has been foreseen.
It is also worth noting that PPC in collaboration with the University of West. Macedonia and specialized technology providers, has submitted a proposal to a European research program for conversion of large equipment of Stations (Lignite grinding mills) to energy savers to provide inertia to the system.
At a time when some of these projects are already in the process of implementation and the rest in the process of studies and maturation, the company studies and designs a variety of new projects and actions, which will make the most of energy facilities and infrastructure, which cease to operate, while at the same time trying to create new value and perspective for both herself, as well as for the region, contributing decisively to the transition to the new era.
