"It simply came to our notice then, as a person with a disability, I did everything, what did i do, you have to succeed in whatever you do in your life "…. Simos Paltsanitidis 08/11/2021… 1st Primary School of Siatista
A special event took place at the 1st Elementary School of Siatista on Monday morning 8 November 2021, with the Paralympian discus thrower invited, K. Simos Paltsanitidis.
Students and teachers welcomed the Greek athlete with great joy, which was presented in parts in the indoor hall of the school and in the outdoor amphitheater, due to measures against coronavirus.
It is a great joy for the children who came in contact and got to know the athlete who brought the bronze medal to Greece during the Sydney Paralympic Games in 2000.
Coming from Thessaloniki, Simos Paltsanitidis spoke with great love to the students about sports, the Olympic ideals, human values, the power of the soul , faith while his advice reached to the diet and the right attitude - human behavior.
The students were excited by the presence of Simos Paltsanitidis and asked many questions that gave him the opportunity to convey the slogan "I CAN" and to show in his own way the value of mental strength that can overcome obstacles in human life..
The medals that the paralympian had with him brought great excitement to the children.. Other than his participation in the national wheelchair basketball team, other than his participation in marathons and others from the sport of discus. But the most important medal, as mentioned by the athlete, he forgot it in his house. It is the medal from a fight that came out last and what made him believe in the continuation of the battle and in its further improvement. It should be noted that Simos Paltsanitidis is one of the two athletes who covered the distance from Athens to Thessaloniki (520 kilometers in 4 days) in wheelchair from 21 to 24 September 1997, thus occupying a place in the Guinness Book.
Just before the end of the presentations, representatives of all students of the 1st Elementary School of Siatista presented the paralympian with a bouquet of laurel branches, symbol of victory in ancient Greece, and a construction, the emblem of the Paralympic Games, with 3 drops (blue, red, green) symbolizing the most important components of human existence, SOUL - BODY – SPIRIT. A construction for which the 117 fingerprints of all students in the school, a group "gift" for the guest of honor.
Warm thanks to the parents' association of the school (outgoing and current BoD) for his practical support, with cost coverage.
And in addition, to the mother of school children, Mrs. Konstantina Papazoglou, elder π. Grigoriou Keselopoulos, which, inspired by the visit of the mother of the gold medalist of Tokyo Miltos Tentoglou, brought the school in contact with the Paralympian, as well as the father of a schoolgirl, Mr. Dionysis Bosiaka, for the camera of the video recording of the specific event. All the best to all the supporters of our educational project.
