The government seems to be considering the possibility of returning the measure of withdrawal of old cars.
The Minister of Environment and Energy Costas Skrekas stressed that the withdrawal program is on the table, emphasizing that until it is implemented in practice, there should be cooperation with other competent ministries.
Regardless of the time chosen to activate or not the measure, analysts point out the potential benefits, with the first the gradual renewal of the fleet of vehicles circulating in Greece, which continues to age dangerously, but also the faster electrification of cars.
Today, the withdrawal measure applies only to the purchase of an electric car and touches them 1.000 euro (plus the subsidy for electrified cars amounting to 6.000 euro).
The market is reluctant to return the measure, due to the weakness faced by the global car industry - due to the lack of semiconductors - to produce a sufficient number of cars, resulting in long delays (from 6 to 15 months!) in order deliveries.
At the same time the government intends to make full use of both this year and the years 2022 and 2023 the program "I move Electricly" subsidizing the purchase of electric cars, bicycles and bicycles, even providing incentives for the withdrawal of conventional technology vehicles.
In this context, the leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Energy intends to move forward in program improvements, to enhance the motivation of electrification. More specifically the changes that are coming are:
- Abolition of the mandatory purchase of a subsidized electric car after the expiration of the minimum acceptable 36 months. The goal is to make timeshare more affordable and reduce the cost of rent, encouraging the electrification of corporate fleets.
- Increase the maximum number of vehicles that a company can procure from three to ten 10 for both the mainland and the island country.
- Increase, almost double, of the subsidy amount for the purchase of electric taxis. It will rise to 22.500 euros together with the benefit of the withdrawal.
- Municipal companies as well as companies in the wider public sector will now be eligible.
- Legal entities active in specific sectors will also be eligible for a bicycle subsidy., such as bicycle rental companies, hotels, distribution companies (delivery).
- The subsidy for the purchase and installation of a "smart" charger from legal entities is also eligible, except for natural persons that was valid until today.
